Council employee killed and body dumped near home

01 January 2013, 10:31Oduor Omondi

The body of an employee of Ahero Town Council Joash Otieno Mwalo, 35, who was in charge of rates collection was found dead by close family members.

Mwalo’s body was found dumped near his home at Kasuna village, Kakola location in Nyando District in what family members believe is a conspiracy to interfere with investigations.

Confirming the incident, Nyando OCPD Elias Gitonga said the body had several cuts on the neck and forehead.

Gitonga stated that Mwalo could have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene but warned against speculation as this would only compromise police investigations.

However, the motive behind the killing will only be confirmed after police officers accomplish their investigations.

The OCPD said the body was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Following the death, Gitonga has appealed to members of the public to be more careful and avoid overindulgence during this festive season to avoid further loss of lives.

The incident comes a week after another body was discovered under similar circumstances at Ahero market, causing concern among local residents who appealed to the police to intensify their patrols.
