Cord MPs blames Jubilee for Marsabit insecurity

Nairobi - A section of MPs affiliated to the Cord coalition have blamed the Jubilee government for the recent wave of insecurity in Marsabit County terming it as an ulterior political agenda which has Jubilee’s administration in it.
Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday, the MPs, led by Tongaren MP Dr. Eseli Simuyu, said that Marsabit has for several decades had security challenges but the current problems have been ignited by the national government's laxity in dealing with issues of law and order.
“There is an evident elaborate and politically instigated scheme to perpetuate insecurity in parts of Marsabit and then lay the blame on the county government. Even in obvious cases where perpetrators of murder, destruction and violence are known, the national government has chosen not to act,” said Simiyu.
The MPs further said that the County government of Marsabit has been accused of not forming inclusive government that reflects the ethnic and regional diversity of the County and thus blaming the Governor, Ukur Yatani Kanacho, for failing the County. However, they swore to stand with him since he is a Cord member and he won decisively.
They claimed that the authors of the insecurity scheme wanted to create a situation where the prevailing circumstances may lead to the suspension of the County government of Marsabit and possibly lead to a by election with the approval of the Senate owing to the tyranny of numbers in both the Senate and National Assembly.
