Nyeri - A group of Christian security officers in Nyeri County have launched a programme of preaching the Gospel to the local residents in bid to enhance their relationship with the community.
The group comprising officers from Administration Police and the regular police units are crisscrossing the region in efforts to attract members of the public to the services they offer.
According to Tetu sub county commissioner, Herman Shambi, the officers are in a mission of wooing public cooperation and peaceful coexistence between police officers and the community they serve.
Shambi noted that sometimes it is hard to get crucial intelligence information from members of the public who have lived with the perception that a police officer is like an enemy.
“This programme is aimed at withdrawing that mentality and induce them with a message that a police officer is part of that community and therefore they should have no fear when addressing or presenting themselves to us,” said Shambi.
He exuded confidence that the programme will make community policing easier and relevant to both parties.
The administrator pointed out that the officers will soon be conducting church services so as to get closer to the people and that the programme is part of transformational agenda initiated to improve the defunct provincial administration.
