Nyahururu - Ndaragwa police station OCS was shot dead by an Administration Police officer Tuesday night in a case of mistaken identity.
Confirming the incident, Nyandarua North OCPD Benjamin Onsongo said that police officers from Nyahururu and Ndaragwa police stations were pursuing highway robbers along Nyahururu – Nyeri road when the incident occurred.
He added that the OCS, Harun Mwang’ombe, was shot after the officers clashed at Ndaragwa forest where a fierce fire exchange ensued.
“We have lost a hard working officer. His next of kin are yet to be informed about the unfortunate incident,” said Onsongo.

A police officer who sought anonymity told the media that police officers from Nyahururu had been alerted of the robbers and thus pursued them to Ndaragwa.
“Unaware that our colleagues from Ndaragwa were on a mission to pursue the same robbers, we exchanged fire for some time only to learn that we had killed our colleague after reporting the incident,” he said.
He added that the body of the deceased was taken to Chiromo Hospital mortuary.
