Conflict as church debates status of gay preacher
28 September 2015, 21:39
Nyeri - Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Kagongo Parish in Othaya held two parallel worship services, on Sunday.
One group camped outside the church and was led by a self-imposed priest while the other group with few members was inside the church led by Reverend Samuel Maina.
The two services continued uninterrupted with high presence of armed police officers.
The church split into two groups following allegations that their priest, Archdeacon John Gachau was engaging in homosexuality.

One of the splinter groups is opposing the leadership of Reverend Maina while the other is demanding reinstatement of Archdeacon Gachau.
Gachau was suspended by Mount Kenya West Diocese, Bishop Joseph Kagunda among four other preachers.
However, the church followers accused the church leadership of foul play, saying the elders were not consulted.
