Commissioner Condemns illicit Brews,

Meru County Commissioner Chege Mwangi has said liquor businessmen in Imenti South district who do not conform to government regulations will have their licenses cancelled.
The Commissioner said the Government will not relent on the war against illicit brews and expressed concern over the high number of young people in the area who have continued to indulge in the consumption of illicit brews saying they were endangering their lives and have been rendered unproductive.
Mwangi made the remarks yesterday in Nkubu during a leaders meeting chaired by Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi.
He said the Provincial Administration had netted over 4,000 liters of Mugacha illicit brew and called for concerted efforts of all leaders to end consumption and the manufacture of these brews.
On security, he said wananchi were the main custodians of their own security saying they could detect suspicious people among them saying they should ensure such people are reported to relevant authorities so that they can be apprehended.
He embraced community policing initiatives saying all information given to the Police will be treated with confidentiality.
Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi cautioned wananchi against consumption of illicit liquor saying no form of development could be achieved by people who are drunkards.
