Collect your identity cards

The Imenti North District registrar of persons, Margaret Ireri, is appealing to members of the public to collect 3 216 identity cards that have been lying uncollected at her office.
Speaking to the media at her office on Wednesday, Ireri said that the identity cards consist of newly issued ones and those meant for replacement.
She observed that the number of uncollected identity cards has reduced from last month’s 3 716 to 3 216 as ‘wananchi’ continued to collect their cards.
She also noted the importance of the document during the forthcoming voter registration and subsequent voting processes and urged those who had applied for identity cards to collect them as soon as possible.
She noted that about 100 identity cards are collected every day by their owners and expressed optimism that they would continue to collect them now that elections were nearing.
According to her statistics, loss of identity cards was the most prominently reported in the district, with her office having replaced a total of 732 identity cards in the month of September.
