Class one boy commits suicide using a mosquito net

06 February 2015, 18:57 Arap Yego

Kericho - Shock and disbelief has gripped Kaitui Village in Ainamoi Constituency in Kericho County after a standard one pupil in the area allegedly committed suicide at their home.

The lifeless body of the nine-year-old boy who was a pupil at Kaitui Primary School was found dangling from a tree outside their home Thursday afternoon. A mosquito net was tied around the child’s neck.

Confirming the incident, Bargeywet area sub-chief, Peterson Rono said efforts to rescue the minor bore no fruits as he died on his way to Kericho District Hospital which is 23KMs away from the village.

“He was all alone at home when the afternoon incident happened, as class one children do not go back to school after lunch. We have launched investigations to find out whether there was foul play in the kids death,” he told News24.

According to the chief, the boy was staying with his father and older brother, who were not at home when the incident occurred. The boy’s mother left the homestead after differences with her husband,” explained the chief.

The incident has left many people in the area with questions, with most of them wondering what would prompt such a young child to take away his own life.
