Class 8 girl found hanged

A somber mood engulfed Gongoni when the body of a class eight pupil was found hanging from a tree, a few meters from their homestead in Magarini district.
The 17 year old girl from Mapimo Primary School was found under a tree where she is suspected to have hanged herself, although it has not been established how she committed suicide.
Unconfirmed reports said that Clare Agutu was accompanied by her classmates when they attended a certain party on Saturday night before her death.
Magarini District Officer Patrick Ole Ntutu confirmed the incident and said police were carrying out investigations in order to establish the cause of her death.
The DO said that he had already summoned the parents of the deceased for interrogation, in a bid to establish the cause of the suicide which he added still remained a riddle to the community around.
Ole Ntutu however added that the body of the deceased was taken to Malindi district Hospital mortuary as investigations go on.
There are also unascertained reports that the deceased was being forced to repeat her class seven by her parents who gave in later and allowed her to move to the next class.
There have been no such incidents of school pupils committing suicide in the region since the beginning of the year, unlike other parts of the country where children forced to repeat a class have sought to commit suicide.
