Nairobi - Kenya is hosting the largest delegation of Chinese tourists to ever visit the country, marking a major success for the nation in tapping emerging markets for tourism especially in Asia and the Middle East.
A group of 110 tourists hosted by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) at a Nairobi hotel from the weekend will tour leading sites in the country for five days.
The Chinese delegation tour gives Kenya’s tourism sector a much needed boost and is the result of strategic consumer activations in key Chinese cities that include Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu.
KTB Managing Director, Muriithi Ndegwa welcomed the guests saying it was a major achievement for Kenya’s tourism industry.
“This is a grand endorsement of Kenya as a leading destination despite the challenges we have faced,” Ndegwa said in reference to the recent incidents of insecurity in the country including terrorist attacks in Nairobi and Mombasa.
He added that terrorism is not unique to Kenya and what should be focused on are measures the government has put in place to deal with the situation.
