Children call out for peace

23 November 2012, 12:24 Steve Wambugu

Primary school pupils from Molo and Kuresoi on Thursday joined the Green Belt Movement in promoting peace where they also planted trees at Peace Park in Molo town as one way of ensuring the events of 2007/08 will not take place again.

Program Coordinator of Green Belt Movement Judith Kimomo said that the day is meant to create peace awareness in Molo and Kuresoi.

Judith also pointed out that whenever there is crises in the country, children and women are the one who suffered the most.

She urged residents to heed to the call by the children to promote peace in Molo and in the country.

"Children suffer a lot especially when skirmishes erupt in the country and that's why the Green Belt Movement together with the 38 primary schools from this region have teamed up together to spread peace," said the Coordinator.

The Green Belt Movement which was started by the late Wangari Marthai is expected to hold similar peace forums in other counties before the country heads to polls next year.
