Child murdered, parts cut off

Vihiga - Grief engulfed Charogohe village, Emanda sub-location in Vihiga County Wednesday after a body of a five-year old child was discovered in the bushes with his tongue, nose and private parts brutally cut off and missing.
Neighbours said that the child had been playing with others when a woman called her, gave her some money to go and purchase mandazi (doughnuts) and then disappeared never to be seen again.
After the child had gone missing for almost eight hours since 11am, residents came out in huge numbers to look for him only to find his lifeless body tucked in the bushes near a stream.
“The grandmother had gone to the posho mill leaving the child behind at home. When she came back, the child was missing. After many hours of waiting, she asked neighbours to help her look for him only to find him dead,” the boy’s grandfather, Bernard Mangaji said.
The grandfather said that when they finally found the child, many parts of his body were missing and he appeared to have been struck on the head with a blunt object.
He said that some children said they saw a woman and a smartly dressed man wash their hands in a nearby stream where the boy was found, but they did not bother to report the matter as they deemed them innocent.
“The children said that the couple disappeared after an attempt to call another child was botched,” Mangaji said.
Area assistant chief, Edward Keya asked the residents of the village to be on high alert as they bordered Majengo town which has been very insecure in the recent past.
He said that landlords in the town were supposed to take the details of their tenants to ensure that people do not commit criminal activities and then escape scot free.
“We have so many people in this town whose details cannot be traced and thus open up an avenue for an easier route of committing criminal activities,” Keya said.
The body of the child was taken to Vihiga Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem.
Elsewhere, three brothers from Itegero sub-location in Sabatia constituency engaged each other in a fight over a parcel of land they inherited from their father where two of them and his daughter-in-law were seriously injured after being hacked with a panga.
Sabatia district administration police commandant, Patrick Wambua said that the two brothers (Joseph Vwivuya and Jonah Lukalo), who are now hospitalised, attacked their brother (Kenneth Kisia) and the wife who were tending to their farm and injured her, which made Kisia to snatch the panga and hack both of them.
“After Kisia had snatched the panga, he stabbed Joseph on the hand and Jonah on the leg, injuring them. They were taken to Sabatia hospital and later transferred to Vihiga Hospital where they are receiving treatment,” said Wambua.
