Vihiga - An assistant chief was on Monday charged at Hamisi Law courts in Vihiga County alongside a standard eight candidate for taking illicit brew over the weekend in a village in Sabatia.
The two, 45-year-old Hudson Majanga and the 16-year-old boy, were nabbed taking the illegal substance in a house at Kisatiru sub-Location in Sabatia constituency on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Sabatia police boss, Martha Mutegi, said the assistant chief was entertaining the minor who was to sit his national examinations at Ivona primary school from Tuesday.
“We nabbed the two and arrested them following the police operation in the area on Sunday. They were held at Mudete before being taken to the Law courts yesterday,” Mutegi said.
They appeared before Hamisi senior resident magistrate, Evans Muleka, to answer to the charges pressed against them.
The assistant chief denied the charges while the minor pleaded guilty. The minor was released on free bond to allow him to sit his examination pending court judgment that will be delivered on Monday next week.
The assistant chief has since been detained pending the hearing of his case.
