Thika - Thika police are pursuing five men who reportedly attacked and injured Makongeni Estate Chief and his two assistants at Kiganjo-Kiang’ombe village on Wednesday.
The three administrators had attempted to arrest the alleged criminals after they were found packing bhang worth more than KES 1 million.
However, the assailants’ names and details were given to the police by one of the attackers whom the administration police officers managed to arrest as his accomplices fled.
The Chief, Daniel Waiguru and his two assistants, John Gitau Njoroge and Simon Kimani Kamau were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment. They sustained head and chest injuries.
Area Deputy County Commissioner, Jeremiah Gicheru said the administrators were rescued by residents from the hands of the attackers whom he said were out to eliminate them.
He said it was the quick response by the members of the public that alerted the Kiganjo Administration Police Officers who rushed to the scene of the incident.
The trio had raided a homestead suspected to be a den of robbers only to pounce on the group packing rolls of bhang.
The apprehended assailant is being held at Thika police station awaiting trial.
