Othaya - There was chaos in Othaya town on Thursday afternoon after supporters of politician Peter King’ara held demonstrations protesting against the Supreme Court judgment.
Business operations were disrupted as police officers engaged the youth in running battles.
King’ara’s supporters were protesting against the Supreme Court judgment that cancelled mini polls which were slated to be on April 29 (Tuesday next week).
Subsequently, Wambui’s supporters also took to the streets, welcoming the courts decision, a move that perturbed the other group and both engaged in a war of words.
Several people have been arrested and escorted to Othaya police station while armed anti-riot police officers patrolled the town to keep order.
Police vehicles were spotted bringing more ant-riot police in town as reinforcement.
The court ruled that Wambui’s appeal raises issues of great public interest and must be heard first.
Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal and Justice Mohammed Ibrahim scheduled the appeal to be heard on April, 28.
