Man shot dead by cattle rustler

A man was shot dead and sixty nine calves stolen Tuesday night when armed gangsters invaded a homestead in Gambela, Tigania East District.
Tigania East District Commissioner Mwangi Meru confirmed the incident saying Gitonga Gitire who was a herdsman died at the Isiolo District hospital after he succumbed to gunshots on both his legs following excessive bleeding.
He noted that the deceased had been rescued from some bushes at Mbataru sub location by security officers who rushed him to Isiolo district hospital.
Meru who was addressing the media in Meru said that concerted efforts by police officers led by Chief Inspector Nderitu Mureithi led to recovery of all the animals.
He said security personnel who outnumbered members of the gang ambushed them during the operation which was conducted at night.
He however said police have mounted a search for the gangsters who fled after the police confrontation.
Meru said the animals belonged to Mwenda of Muthaara location, and directed security personnel in the area to be alert and vigilant in their duty.
He appealed to wananchi to share intelligence information with their neighboring Isiolo and Igembe districts in a bid to help combat insecurity in the region.
