World marathon champion Catherine Ndereba has said that she will soon start a sports academy in the country.
Ndereba said the academy will help train interested athletes in the country.
Speaking during the Mathira West Education Day where she was the chief guest, the heroine said she has already purchased land in an undisclosed location and what is left is only to put structures.
Ndereba who was accompanied by her husband Anthony Maina said she is very committed in helping upcoming athletes so that they can also be winners like her.
“I want to go through the Ministry of Sports so that we can reach as many runners as we can. I want the sportsmen to take this country to greater heights,” she added.
She lamented that there are many talents going to waste in the country for lack of sponsors and urged Kenyans to help tap talents at an early age.
The athlete explained that the Nyeri Half Marathon (that she sponsored) was discontinued since her husband who was organising it became very busy but promised to resume the exercise in near future.
She urged the Ministry of Sports to reclaim sporting facilities like Ruring’u stadium which has not helped Nyeri people due to negligence.
She wondered why the ASK has refused to part with the title deed yet it is not helping them.
