Car in President's convoy kills man in Mumias

Bungoma - A speeding car in the convoy of President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday knocked down a 74-year-old man in Lutonyi area along the Kakamega-Mumias road, killing him on the spot.
The man was a passenger on a boda boda when the incident happened, as the Head of State and his Deputy William Ruto and other leaders were on the way to Mumias Sugar Company.
His 24-year-old grandson who was riding the boda boda at the time was seriously injured in the incident and he is recuperating at a Kakamega hospital where he was rushed for medical attention.

Furious residents attempted to torch down the Presidential motorcade car that knocked down the duo, but police thwarted their efforts.
Kakamega County commander, Manegene Kirui who confirmed the incident, told journalists that the man was pronounced dead on arrival at the Kakamega General Hospital.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was touring for the region for the first time since his election, presented KES 1 billion to bail out Mumias Sugar Company which was on the verge of collapse.
