Campus girls take over Nyahururu

16 October 2012, 12:59Kelvin Wanjohi

A group of hardcore university girls has hit the streets and bars in Nyahururu town at twilight to join regular commercial sex workers mostly on mid-week and weekends.

Sometimes assisted to hook ‘executive-looking’ men by pimps,   the students are bought super and drinks before they accompany their one-night-stands to lodgings.

Some are returning to their hostels after the willing-seller willing- buyer business, while others may go for one more catch and some may spend the night out of the hostels.

A number of hostels have mushroomed in the town and its environs due to the university colleges campuses and other private institutions that continue to spring up in the area, offering wide varieties of Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses.

The girls have been spotted for the last whole month at different strategic places on Kenyatta and Koinange streets.

Speaking very good English, well groomed and usually preferring to move in twos or threes, some of the students claimed that that particular evening was their ‘very first one’ to venture into an outing to see the nightlife of Nyahururu.

“I am just waiting for my hostel room mate. But may be I can take something before she comes...

“Well...this town can be cold, eh? You come from around? What do you do,” a talkative Jackline (not her real name) cooed before the serious business of the evening started.

She was ready to bed a young male student for 200 bob for what she referred to as ‘a quickie’ and 800 bob for the whole night.

“Why don’t we discuss your request over a beer,” a different student asked, without the slightest eye-brink. This one asked for Sh 400, saying she wouldn’t like to stay out longer because of strict hostel rules.

In all, about 14 female students from different home Counties were ready to sell their bodies. Students by day, cheap whores at night.

Some of the campus women openly confessed that they needed the cash to supplement meager pocket money.

Others said they needed a beer or two to cool down their heads after tough continuous assessment test (cat) and difficult project.

But some appeared simply spoilt young women, out to riot.

Parents may have to review the options. Hostel owners may have to put strict house regulations.  Youth counselors and spiritual shepherds at the campuses and home have a heavy task. Police swoops might be just a temporary solution.
