CORD to hold teachers protest rally at Uhuru Park

Nairobi - The CORD coalition will hold a teachers protest rally at Uhuru Park Wednesday, it has announced.
The coalition's leadership applied to the Central Police Station Saturday to hold the rally in protest over government failure to pay teachers improved salaries.
The rally will kick off at 8 AM.
The rally will coincide with President Uhuru Kenyatta's departure to the United States, a move that has caused uproar in opposition ranks.
The rally comes in the fourth week of an ongoing teachers strike that has forced schools to be closed.
Siaya Senator James Orengo said that police have been given prior notice.
" We have given prior notice as is the law and we expect to be provided with security," he said at the Central Police Station.
The government has insisted it has no money to effect the 50/60% pay-rise handed to teachers by the Labour Court.
