CORD take massive campaign to Kajiado Central
16 February 2015, 17:23
Nairobi - The CORD coalition has started campaigning in Kajiado Central constituency as they gear towards the upcoming by elections.
The coalition took its cue to start campaigning early as they seek to retain a seat left vacant by the ascension of Joseph Nkaissery to the cabinet.
Led by leader Raila Odinga and co principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka, the coalition toured the County as they sought to gain support for their candidate Memusi Kanchori.
" We are not here for a show of might, we are here to sell our policies & request you to elect Memusi to parliament," Raila said.
Wetangula called on voters not to give hope to support corruption by voting for the Jubilee coalition.
" They only thrive in stealing and grabbing any bare land on sight. We must tell them NO by electing Memusi, he said.
Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale asked voters not to change the lines of history by electing Tutui whose family has previously been rejected by the electorate.
" Mama ya Tutui alikataliwa, babake pia akataliwa, ndugu yake mkubwa pia alikataliwa, sasa itakuwa Tutui mwenyewe?" (His mum failed, his dad failed, his elder brother failed, will he be the one to pass), Khalwale mocked Tutui.
They were full of confidence that they would deliver victory and were met by huge crowds, a sign that the election might be a tough one to call.
Earlier, they had accompanied Kanchori to the Independent electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC head quarters to present his nomination certificate.
He was full of confidence that things would go well in the election.
" We have a strong team that is behind me as you can see and I am sure the people of Kajiado Central will back the party," Kanchori said at the IEBC headquarters.
The election is expected to be a battle between Kanchori and the Jubilee Alliance Party's Patrick Tutui.
Both were cleared by the IEBC Monday.
The election will be a battle between the two dominant coalitions in the country, and especially between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, both of whom will be looking to show who is boss.
A win for CORD will show that Raila is still relevant but a Jubilee win as many expect will kill off ODM in Maasai country.
