CORD plans to impeach Uhuru on track, says Mbadi

Nairobi - CORD plans to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta are on track, ODM chairman John Mbadi has said.
The initiative has been thus far hit with roadblocks especially over its legality and ability to hold, especially considering that CORD have far less numbers in Parliament than President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee coalition.
According to Mbadi though, everything is fine and that signature collection is now at an advanced stage.
" We are on track. We plan to go to the Speaker and present the motion by the end of this week and then the rest will follow," he stated.
The initiative needs 117 MPs to sign up for to allow debate and Mbadi said that they are close.
" We are still collecting them and I am confident it will be debated and will sail through," he added.
CORD is looking to impeach Uhuru for not adhering to a court order ordering the government to raise teachers' salaries by between 50 and 60%.
However, members of Uhuru's Jubilee coalition are also confident that the motion will be shot down.
" The motion lack substance and it will die a natural death," Majority leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale said.
To impeach the President, two thirds majority in the house needs to agree and vote for it to pass through.
