CID bosses reshuffled in fight against Al Shabaab

17 June 2015, 16:56 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Top Criminal Investigation Department CID officers in the north Eastern part of the country have been reshuffled as the fight against the Al Shabaab militia group escalates.

CID director Ndegwa Muhoro announced the changes Wednesday in a move geared towards fighting the increased influence of terrorists in the region.

The key changes affect Wajir, Mandera and Garissa counties.

Former Head of Anti-Terror Police Unit Boniface Mwaniki is now new Garissa County CID Commander.

On the other hand, Said Baruk will take charge of Mandera County with Keri Nyawida leading Wajir.

Festus Malinge moves from Kisii to Busia County, Francis Kilonzo from the Bomb Disposal Unit to Tharaka Nithi County, John Otieno to Nyamira and Stephen Chacha to Murang’a. The new Bomb Disposal Unit head is Eliud Langat.

Onesmus Towett has been moved from Kwale to CID headquarters, with Amos Teben is the new Kisii County CID commander.

Makadara CID Boss William Nanguli replaces Ndumba Thangalan in Mombasa as Thangalan moves to the CID headquarters and Issa Mohamed will now head the Anti Terror police unit.

" They are normal changes aimed at ensuring we address some of these crimes," Muhoro said.

The changes come in the midst of increased terrorist activity in the northern region, which observers have blamed on lack of intelligence and lack of strategy to deal with the terrorists.

They also come a few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta said that Kenya would remain in Somalia to fight the Shabaab and that attacks within the country will be dealt with.
