Nyeri - A Nyeri court on Tuesday handed a local butcher three years in jail for stealing and slaughtering a cow worth KES 30,000.
Samuel Mathenge Wambugu, a butcher at Mwireri shopping centre in Nyeri Central, appeared before Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu where he pleaded guilty to the offense.
He had been charged that on November 13, he stole and later slaughtered a cow belonging to Eunice Nyawira.
He was arrested the same day by officers from Kiganjo police station after the owner reported the incident.
The convict however told the court that he bought the cow from his friends unaware that it was stolen property.
In mitigation, he said he is a father of two who solely depend on him for daily bread, adding that he is supporting his sister’s kids who are orphans.
