Businessmen to rake in millions from Nyeri beatification ceremony

18 May 2015, 21:36 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - The business community in Nyeri County is expecting to rake in millions of shillings during the three-day beatification ceremony of Sister Irene Stefani Nyaatha.

Sister Irene Stefani lived and worked in Mukurweini, Nyeri in the early 1900s.

The businessmen are more prepared for the event, according to County Chairperson of the Business Chamber of Commerce, Joe Machira.

Machira said there are prospects that Nyeri economy will grow and move a notch higher with the international event, which will attract about 300 000 people including foreigners.

“This is an international event which we cannot afford to hold haphazardly. We must make maximum profit by doubling our efforts,” stated Machira.

The County Chamber Of Commerce membership includes small entrepreneurs like mobile phone sellers (hawkers), hospitality, and transport among other sectors of business.

Machira has asked the business community to take advantage of the event and increase sales.

“Any business person in Nyeri must take full advantage of the high population that will be in the County for the beatification event. Within those few days, entrepreneurs should get maximum benefits. Hawkers must increase their wares to ensure they sell more products,” said Machira.

While terming the event as a God-given opportunity of raking in money, Machira said they are planning how the business community will be selling their wares.

Machira however said the ceremony must be used to market Nyeri as a business and tourist destination as well as a business centre.
