Migori - A businessman is nursing gunshot injuries at a private hospital in Migori town as one gangster was killed by irate villagers after a robbery incident at a wholesale shop in Kuria West Sub-County, Saturday morning.
The daring daylight attack on Ghati Rwanga Mungwana at Motemorabu market was executed by three armed men, one of whom was later cornered and killed by villagers.
According to the area deputy OCPD, David Kirui, the gangsters who were dressed in military jungle uniforms had an AK47 assault rifle and machetes which they used in attacking Mungwana.
The thugs believed to be from the neighbouring Tanzania, first entered the shop and posed as customers before they ordered the shop owner to hand over the keys to the cash box and all other valuable items he had during the 11 am attack.
“The three gunmen walked into the wholesale shop posing as potential customers and started asking for prices of various goods before they fished out the guns and a panga, ordered the businessman to lie down and surrender the keys to them,” Kirui told the press.
The trio had arrived in a TZ plated saloon car, entered the shop as normal customers before attacking the owner, shooting him in the right leg and cutting his shoulder with the panga.
“In a split of a second, they emptied the cash box, stashed other valuable things into a gunny bag and sped off in their vehicle towards the common border, which is only a few kilometres from the scene of the attack," narrated Kirui.
However, members of the public who made a chase of them managed to corner one of them whom they found abandoned a few meters away from the common border and killed him.
But the other two managed to escape into Tanzania with cash and valuables of unknown value even as Kenya and Tanzania security officers launched a joint manhunt for them on either sides of the common border.
