A middle aged man on Thursday amazed Nyeri Magistrate’s court when he sensationally accused police officers who arrested him of assault using a panga, leaving him with cut injuries at his legs.
Gerald Wambugu Maina narrated the torment while pleading with Senior Resident Magistrate Joann Wambliyanga to be sought with medical care claiming that he was in pain.
Wambugu Maina who was faced with charges of planning to commit felony told court that on the day of his arrest, police assaulted him causing grievous harm using a panga that was in his possession during his time of arrest.
However, Wambugu denied that on March 12 this year he was found at Ruring’u area, which is not his place of abode, armed with dangerous weapons like pangas and rungus.
The court heard that the weapons were aimed to be used to cause burglary or theft.
Police in patrol came across the accused person in company of his accomplices who managed to escape.
The magistrate directed that the accused be given treatment at Nyeri GK prison.
He was however released on a bond of KES 0.1Million or a cash bail of KES. 0,000.
The case was slated to proceed on April 25, 2013.
