Breaking: CJ retirement suspended
01 October 2015, 17:08
Nairobi - The retirement of Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal has been suspended.
Rawal had been told by the Judiciary Service Commision JSC that she will leave office at the end of the year as she has hit 70 years, the current retirement age.
However, she has refused, stating that whilst joining the Judiciary, her set retirement age was 74.
The High Court has however suspended the move to retire her and find a new replacement, pending a case in which she has appealed the move to retire her.
Rawal says that her retirement has been mishandled and that there is a witch-hunt from the JSC over her position.
" The retirement and recruitment of a new Deputy Chief Justice is hereby suspended until the appeal is heard and determined," the notice from the High Court said Thursday.
Judiciary Registrar Anne Amadi says that Rawal's refusal to retire is against the law and indicative of her false desire to retain her place in the Judiciary top brass.
