Naivasha - A 12-year-old boy in Naivasha’s Karagita village on Tuesday afternoon saved his mother from the jaws of a hungry hippo that had pounced on her as she fetched water from a local well.
Naivasha sub-County commissioner, Abraham Kemboi who confirmed the incident said that the boy found his mother struggling to free herself from the jaws of the hippo before braving out the hippo by hitting it with a blunt object on its back.
Kemboi said the boy who sustained minor injuries during the fight managed to kill the hippo and rescue his mother who escaped with a disfigured face and right arm.

“The young boy was on his way from school this afternoon when he found his mother in the jaws of the hippo but his brevity helped him rescue her from the jaws of the beast. He killed the hippo by hitting it repeatedly on its back,” said Kemboi.
The boy and his mother were admitted at the Naivasha sub-County district hospital where he was treated and discharged as the mother waited to undergo reconstructive surgery on her face and the fractured arm.
