Nairobi - A boy died after being pushed down a staircase at a Nairobi school, with police investigating why the matter was reported two days after it happened.
The 17 year old boy at Nairobi's Consolata High School in Westlands died after an apparent argument with his classmate over a book.
Austin Dianga died after being pushed down the stairs and falling awkwardly, hitting his head on the ground and cracking his skull.
He was rushed to hospital Tuesday but died after bleeding spread to his brain, doctors at the MP Shah Hospital said.
But the main issue is why the school saw it fit to state the matter to police two days later, something that has raised alarm over the matter.
" We are investigating the matter and nothing will be left un- turned in pursuit of the truth, " Kilimani Police boss Peter Katam told News24.
" There are conflicting reports and we are aware and are taking our time to understand what really happened," he added.
Witnesses said that Austin fell several flights down after being pushed and that the identity of the student who pushed him was with the police.
The parents of the child have been left in shock and despair over the matter.
" We are crushed but even more so by the manner in which the school has handled the matter. We are very disappointed," Austin's father Louis said.
Dianga wa set to sit for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE exams later this year.
