Boy crushed by Jubilee celebration truck

11 March 2013, 15:56 Mwangi Karanja

A 12 year old boy on Saturday died after being trampled by a truck at Matisi area in Kitale while heading to a Jubilee celebration party.

The area chief Jackline Sitoya said Ian Kipkoech was among 100 people who were traveling to Kitale town to celebrate the victory of president elect Uhuru Kenyatta.

She said the boy who was a pupil at Kitale school fell from the truck he was traveling in; the wheels squashed his head killing him on the spot.

“The truck was ferrying Jubilee supporters to Kitale town to join others in the celebrations before he was pushed and fell off; it was carrying excess passengers and most of them did not have a place to hold onto,” she noted.

Sitonya added that most parents left their children to loiter around adding that the accident was due to lack of responsibility.

Confirming the incident, Kitale OCPD James Mitugo said the driver of the truck was arrested immediately after the accident.

He added that it was illegal for drivers to violate traffic rules.

“No one is allowed to use the road the way he wants; we do have rules to guide us, and any breach will lead to trial,” he cautioned.

The body of the deceased was removed to Kitale district mortuary.
