Both Jubilee, CORD shieliding people behind sugar cartels

Nairobi - A Member of Parliament has accused both the Jubilee and CORD coalitions for shielding sugar barons and people behind sugar cartels who are behind the importation of cheap sugar into the country.
Nakuru east MP, David Gikaria said that there are known politicians in both coalitions who are engaged in the sugar importation business, something he said has crippled the sugar industry in the country.
Speaking Sunday in Nakuru town, Gikaria said that leaders in both coalitions are depicting the highest degree of hypocrisy in the ongoing sugar debate.

“There are so many sugar barons in CORD and Jubilee and that is the open truth and the best thing both coalitions can do is to name and shame them and stop the hypocrisy we are witnessing. The sugar industry in the country has been crippled because of these sugar barons who are well known,” said Gikaria.
He called on politicians to stop putting their selfish interests before the interests of poor cane farmers in the country.
“The poor farmers in sugar belt regions are the ones suffering and not the politicians who are trying to protect their businesses,” he said.
