Bondo District Hospital decries over unclaimed bodies.

07 June 2012, 16:09Oduor Omondi

Bondo district Public Health Officer, Alex Mayamba has urged the district police department to swiftly initiate requisite legal procedures that will allow the Bondo district hospital to dispose 4 bodies that have remained unclaimed for one year.

The 4 bodies, (3 male and a female) were brought in by police from Bondo, Lwala Kotiende and Usenge police stations on different dates between August 2011 and February 2012.

Mayamba said according to the law, the hospital is allowed to dispose bodies which have not been claimed after 3 months, but they have been patiently waiting for word from the police who have gone mum over the matter. He said various attempts to get the police have been unfruitful.

“The unclaimed bodies have really taken up space in an already full to capacity mortuary. This has made us deny some members of the public access to the facility,” he said.

The health officer said he has already contacted Bondo OCPD, the District Commissioner and the Bondo town council chairman for a speedy resolution.

Bondo OCPD Patrick Mangoli confirmed receiving the complaint and promised that he is working with the relevant authorities to ensure that the bodies are disposed as soon as possible.
