Nairobi - A bomb was discovered and detonated by police in Nairobi's Juja road near the Moi Air Base in Eastleigh.
The bomb was discovered in Mlango Kubwa by members of the public before police cordoned off the area and the bomb squad took over the scene.
After an hour long episode, bomb experts detonated the device but continued combing off the are as they searched for more bombs after reports that there were more than the one found.
Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui confirmed the incident.
" Police have found the device and detonated it. The whole section of Juja Road has been closed off to members of the public until police can clear the area as safe, he said.
Sources at the scene said that the device was of a high level and was bigger than others the police had set their hands on in recent weeks.
The discovery came less than 48 hours after six people were killed in an attack at a shopping centre not far from the scene and a muslim cleric was arrested hoarding hand grenades in his home.
And with the death of cleric Abubakar Shariff alias Makaburi in Mombasa Tuesday night, police are expecting an increase in similar incidences in the country.
" We are on high alert, Kibue added.
In the last week alone, 12 people have died from terror related incidences and over 50 injured.
