Bodies of 36 Mandera dead arrive in Nairobi

Nairobi - Bodies of the 36 people killed by Al Shabaab militia have arrived in Nairobi from Mandera.
The bodies were airlifted by a Kenya Airforce Helicopter Tuesday afternoon and arrived at the Wilson Airport just after 4.30 PM.
The 36 were killed Monday night in a quarry in Mandera after being attacked by the militia whilst sleeping in their tents. Most were shot on the head.
It is understood that four were beheaded, according to witnesses.
Those killed were non Muslims, with the militia calling them out by their religion before executing them.
Mandera County Police Commander Noah Mwivanda said the construction
workers were killed at 1 a.m. local time by a group of gunmen while sleeping at a quarry at
Koromey, about 20 km from Mandera town bordering Somalia.

in which 28 people were killed in a bus last month. We have not yet
established the motive behind the latest attack," Mwivanda said.
said initial investigations have revealed that all the construction
workers, all of them men, were killed after being ambushed by heavily
deceased were lined on the ground before they were shot at close range.
Four bodies were beheaded while others bore bullet wounds on their
heads and chests," said a resident.
He said all the deceased were
non locals who were working at a local construction site in the restive
region. No group has claimed responsibility.
