Boda boda operators decry robbery by AP officers
19 August 2013, 18:21
Garissa - Boda boda operators in Garissa are screaming in full voice claiming that administration police officers purporting to be traffic officers had been indirectly robbing them recently.
Some of the boda boda operators who refused to be mentioned fearing for fear of victimisation asserted that the Ap officers normally set up their illegal barriers on the farthest corners of the town where members of the public cannot see them asking for bribes.
This has become the norm and any boda boda operator whoever resists giving the bribe would face their full wrath, said a middle aged man who said that his extended family fully depends on his motorcycle business.
They called upon the county government to redress those injustices and also called upon other stakeholders and members of the society in general to work towards bringing that problem to an end.
Initially, boda boda transport was not common in Garissa but the operation is growing swiftly after unemployed young men have indulged in the business to earn a living.
