Boda Boda operators protest over new transport rules
15 August 2014, 08:08
Nyeri - More than 300 Boda Boda operators in Nyeri town Thursday demonstrated over the new regulations from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
The operators said the proposed regulations are draconian and retrogressive to them as ‘this is the only available job left for the boy child currently’.
Through their spokesman, Kimondo Wambui the operators said NTSA did not consult them before drafting the regulations.
"Boda Boda operators should be allowed to work freely and that the government should have enforced the current laws to make work easier," Kimondo said.
They urged lawmakers to always consult the stakeholders whenever they are drafting new rules.
They also asked the government to ensure they are not being harassed by police while seeking to make a living.
