Nairobi - A blogger, jailed two years for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta has been released from prison.
Alan Wadi was jailed for two years in January for admitting to insulting President Kenyatta and members of the Kikuyu Community on social media site Facebook.
Judge Luka Kimaru said Friday that Wadi's offence and subsequent sentence was too harsh and that he should have been taken for a medical examination immediately after he made the proclamation.
His lawyer Edward Oonge in appealing the 2 year sentence, said that Wadi was mentally ill while agreeing to plead guilty and as such the previous judge Anne Kimaru had erred in giving him the harsh sentence.
Wadi was given a one year jail sentence by Kimaru and an added one year sentence if he failed to firm up a KES 200,000 fine immediately.
He was arrested December 2014 after posting the messages on 18,19 of the same month.
