Nairobi - Activist and blogger Robert Alai has been arrested and detained, in what he claims to be illegal action by security authorities to have him detained.
The controversial Alai through a text message to media houses, claimed that he had been detained by CID director Ndegwa Muhoro for apparently posting president Uhuru Kenyatta's contacts online.
He also apparently mocked the ongoing renovation and building work in Kibera by the government by calling it 'Kolongolo' a kids game in the urban slang sheng language.
He also claimed that despite his arrest, there had been no court that wanted to admit his case since there was no complainant.
" I am being detained at Muthaiga Police station for saying that what president Uhuru Kenyatta is doing in Kibera is Kalongolo. This is the Kenya we want? Where is the freedom of expression? Kiambu court has refused to admit my case since there is no complainant. Why is the government doing this, he said in the message.
Alai is a well known critic of the Jubilee government, often taking up stands against the regime on various matters.
Calls to the CID in Muthaiga went unheeded when News24 tried to verify the story, though a police source confirmed that Alai was indeed being detained at the station, though the kind of charge he had been locked up with could not be verified.
