Blackout in Kisumu
13 February 2012, 15:12
A power blackout hit Kisumu city and its environs on Sunday affecting businesses especially recreational facilities that many Kisumu residents flock on Sundays.
Speaking to a youth in Kisumu, identified only as Ayieko, the power disruption was a huge disappointment to the residents who wanted to follow the live proceedings during the unveiling of a new political party.
“KPLC(sic) has greatly interfered with our chance to follow the launch of Tuju’s party live on TV”, he said.
A petrol station operator Ferdinand Amolo interviewed said that, “Unless Kenya Power’s management comes up with a comprehensive explanation outlining why this happened coincidentally with Tuju’s party launch, we can only attribute this to cheap politics to ensure that the Nyanza voting bloc doesn’t follow one of their own launch a party that will give ODM a run for their money”.
His sentiments were echoed by Lucy Mwihaki, a supermarket attendant who said “Kenya Power owes Kisumu residents a swift apology for this inconvenience.”
Kenya Power is yet to issue a statement explaining the power outage.
