Bishop faults urine's curative ability

22 August 2012, 11:28 Tony Karomo

A bishop has faulted the call by a section of the Meru Catholic priests who have advised their faithfuls to drink urine in order to heal from different ailments.

Mount Kenya region Reformed Catholic Bishop Peter Njogu said it is wrong for the priests to urge the public to drink urine in order to heal, yet they are not medically qualified to give such instructions.

He said as far as he is concerned, urine is a waste matter with many acidic contents which can endanger the life of a person if taken without the advise of an expert.

He called on the government to intervene by doing laboratory tests on urine to establish whether it can heal as claimed by some priests before people are allowed to drink the same.

"It is a shame for a priest to advice Christians and Kenyans in general to drink urine in order to heal and it shows that they have become spiritually bankrupt with nothing else to offer to the church except lies," said Bishop Njogu.

Speaking at Kariakomo Reformed Catholic Church in Chogoria location in Maara District during the Sunday service, the Bishop challenged the priests who started the propaganda to ensure they apologize and resign if it is established it is a lie.

He called on the church to only concentrate on interpreting the bible and leave other issues to the right experts.

He also called on Kenyans to shun committing suicide on flimsy grounds and instead embrace dialogue with the clergy, elders, kinsmen and experts in order to resolve any outstanding issues amicably.
