Bilharzia de-worming in Nyando

A total of 30 primary schools have been ear marked for de-worming against bilharzia in flood-prone areas of Nyando district from Wednesday.
Area District Education Officer William Minyiri has disclosed that the organising team projects to achieve 100% coverage in terms of de-worming a total of 24 000 pupils against bilharzia and other common worms.
Speaking at Awasi, Minyiri who met all heads of schools in preparation for the important exercise said those expected to spearhead the program have been duly trained and sensitized to ensure its success.
“Already, drugs to used in the exercise have been delivered to Nyando and are being kept safely,” he said.
Minyiri reiterated that de-worming against common worms will be done in all primary schools while that against bilharzia will focus on only the 30 schools in areas prone to perennial flooding especially in Kano plains.
The DEO explained that the de-worming program will only take a day, appealing to all parents and head teachers to ensure that all children are availed for treatment.
