Be prepared for a real duel, Senetor tells Parliament

09 June 2015, 21:42

Nairobi - A member of the Senate has said that Senators are ready to go for a referendum to trim Parliament's powers.

Nominated Senator Liza Chelule said that Parliament has rubbed the Senate the wrong way and Senators will take it lying down.

Chelule said they are ready to mount a spirited fight to protect the sovereignty of Senate and earn the respect they deserve from members of the national assembly.

Speaking in Naivasha town Monday, Chelule said they will take the war to Parliament’s door step and called on MPs to be ready to battle.

“They might be many in numbers but we want them to know that we have what it takes to fight them if that is what they want. The Senate has so many options of silencing and disciplining Parliament and they should be ready to fight the war they started,” said Chelule.

“Our Parliament has no respect for the Senate and its members but we shall fight for our rightful respect because we deserve it and it is our right, even if it means going for a referendum,” she said.

Chelule added that Parliament is fighting the Senate because their effort to protect devolution does not augur well with MPs.
