Tetu - Bar owners in Tetu district, Nyeri County have agreed to form an association to work together with the government.
They said the association will help them to regulate themselves and also work in harmony with the provincial administration, police, Nacada and the liquor licensing board members who were also in attendance at a meeting held at Wamagana area.
One of the bar owners Edward Mwangi noted that such an association will be of much help since it will help all stakeholders work in unity.
Nyeri sub - county -commissioner Herman Shambi who chaired the meeting said the association will help them to ensure no certified alcohol is sold to the residents.
He said there are 130 bars in the district from the initial 200 bars adding that more will be closed in future since some are near schools while others have not met the required conditions.
“We are coming from the era when alcohol which was being consumed in Tetu was much compared to litres of milk which was being produced in the area,” he added.
He said this led to family breakages since men were unable to perform their conjugal duties thus affecting education standards.
Shambi maintained that the Mututho law must be adhered to the latter.
