BVR kit theft in Nyeri

Myriads of voters at Kieni East in Nyeri County could have faced it rough this week after a BVR kit was stolen from a polling station over the weekend.
According to Laikipia East police boss Joshua Lutukai, an IEBC clerk at Airstrip Primary School was boarding a matatu at Ichuga stage on Saturday when the registration machine was stolen.
Lutukai confirmed that the man had placed the kit at a seat inside the matatu as he spoke to a boda boda operator outside the vehicle.
“The matatu driver took off at a high speed to an unknown destination,” said Lutukai.
He said that upon receiving the report, his team responded within one hour and recovered the BVR kit at a hotel near the stage.
The police commander further confirmed that the clerk was arrested and locked up at the station but was later released.
“We are conducting proper investigations to find out how that machine landed into that hotel,” noted the OCPD.
He assured residents that the registration process at the station will continue as usual.
