Naivasha - COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has petitioned Labour Minister Kazungu kambi to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the management of Naivasha based Karuturi flower farm for allegedly contravening labour laws.
While addressing the media in Nakuru on Monday afternoon, Atwoli revealed that he has written to Kazungu to that effect.
“I petitioned the Labour Minister because there is no way workers can continue working without receiving their wages,” he said.
Atwoli said that despite having communicated with the management of Karuturi farm regarding the issue, they have neither shown concern nor instituted any measures to address it.
He said that it was surprising that close to 4 000 workers have gone without salaries for the last six months whereas they have more than 5 000 indirect or direct dependants.
He said that KPWAU has no powers to control employers' capital and therefore the line Cabinet Secretary should use the powers conferred upon him to arraign the management in court.
He further said that according to section 17 of the Labour laws, the management risked two years imprisonment for failing to pay the workers.
