A middle-aged man has gone into hiding after he allegedly tried to rape a woman in Maroa village in the outskirts of Meru Town in Imenti North District of the Meru County on Sunday.
The man who was identified by residents as Murugo Moria is said to be a herbalist operating a clinic within Meru town.
According to the victim, she met the suspect on the street behind the Meru GK prison and asked to be shown the way to Meru Level Five Hospital to seek medical attention at around 6pm.
The suspect is said to have informed the lady that he was a doctor, luring the lady to his residence so that he would offer her free medication.
According to one of the neighbour’s, the lady was seen running out of the suspect’s house half-naked amid cries, ten minutes after entering the house.
Speaking to the press at the scene, the landlady said the man ran to safety carrying a black bag worried he would be lynched by the angry residents who stormed the village in response to the woman’s distress call.
Police who visited the scene promised to carry out an open investigation into the incident.
