Aspirants to be trained before polls

06 November 2012, 11:36 Steve Wambugu

A firm in Nakuru has developed a curriculum to train aspirants for various leadership positions following the coming in of the new dispensation of the devolved government.

The curriculum known as “Jielimishe” is a vibrant training that dedicates its teaching to leadership and result oriented approach.

Tom Osiru, a Human Resource Consultant said on Tuesday that there was a need for those who want to seek leadership to acquire the basic skills in governance, have the knowledge about the constitution and be in a position to pass the integrity test.

“This is the reason why it is important that our set of next leaders is skill oriented so as to effectively discharge their duties and at the same time be accountable to the electorate,” said Osiru.

He said that taking into account that academic standards have been put in place in the Constitution for the various seats, it would be easier for such leaders to acquire other management skills.

“Too much is expected of the county governments and those county’s that will have better administrative personnel in all cadres of its leaders would be shoulders above the rest, resulting in quality service delivery and fast economic empowerment to the residents,” he said.

He pointed out that the curriculum will be based on the high values that any leadership is expected from and the challenges that the leadership will encounter.

Osiru said all those seeking to contest for leadership positions will have an added advantage on their Curriculum Vitae if they undertake the training.

According to him, the course will be offered at a fee and will be undertaken in Nakuru, Baringo, Narok, Kericho, Narok and other neighbouring counties.
