Aspirant finds 'new running mate' on polls day

04 March 2013, 17:46 Wangui Joseph

As the voting exercise was underway in Nyeri, an aspirant for the county governor seat Dr. Thuo Mathenge was blaming the IEBC for giving his running mate a different name on the ballot paper.

Thuo who is running on SabaSaba Asili party said they noted the anomally when the IEBC gazetted the names of aspirants three weeks ago, but was shocked to realize the mistake had not been rectified even after the commission promised to do so.

Speaking after casting his vote at Kahiga primary school in Nyeri town constituency, Thuo said he did not understand the reason why the commission failed to change the name, adding that it has caused a lot of confusion to his supporters.

The governor hopeful pointed out that the name of his running mate on the ballot is Godfrey Gitonga Ndegwa instead of Geoffrey Kamau Kibui, adding that he had communicated the mistake to the area returning officer for quick intervention.

“We are sure the IEBC is not biased and thus we expect the name to be immediately corrected,” Thuo said.

He expressed confidence that he will win the Nyeri governor seat despite the hitch involving his running mate's name.
