Arrest Warrant issued against OCS

Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi has issued warrants of arrest against two Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers and King’ong’o Police Station OCS.
He gave the orders following failure by the trio to appear in court to give their evidence in regard to a case involving poaching.
The magistrate said the OCS was reluctant in investigating the case, thus directing the Nyeri DCIO to proceed with the matter.
He said poaching in Kenya is currently an issue that needs to be taken seriously, noting that in Laikipia County the cases are being prosecuted by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) through State Counsels.
The trio has skipped court proceedings for seven times now making the matter drag court process. The case concerns Robert Muriithi Gathoni, 25, who is facing charges of being in possession of a government trophy without certificate of ownership from director of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
He is charged that on December 18, 2012 at Mount Kenya Forest he was found in possession of three pieces of elephant tusks valued at KES 50 000.
He denied the charges during his first appearance in court and was released on a bond term of KES 50 000 with a similar surety. The case was adjourned to July 27, 2013.
